Hello, my name is Master Gary A. Schill; and I had the honor and pleasure of being a guest of Dr. Veronica’s on Tuesday January 17, 2012 for the Reality Programming Show. There was a lot of great information shared by the guests and I wanted to provide some valuable resources to the listeners of the Dr. Veronica Show.

Social Media and Reality Programming are creating an Environmental Dynamic that we did not experience as children. As parents, we do not have the experience to pro-actively look out for the pitfalls created by these two genres.

There is this dire need to be accepted socially. To that point there is also this programming that puts “Stars” on some kind of pedestal with the belief that if they are on television, they must know what they are talking about. It creates this false sense of reality that their behavior is acceptable regardless of the consequences

The growing challenge as parents and individuals is the constant connectivity. There is no privacy, in fact most teenagers and young adults have this sense that they are a Star in their own reality television series. Many of them try to use You Tube, Facebook and many other social media outlets to become discovered.

Our society is banking on how many friends or followers they have, paying little regard to whom they are friending. In addition, they pay little attention to the programming and the effects it has on them and their perception of reality to the type of behavior that is acceptable.

Most people have no clue to the negative effects their behavior can have until they are in the midst of a social attack. Our children frankly, cannot handle this type of situation. Yet as parents, we do little to prevent it. This is primarily due to the lack of experience we had as children as we did not deal with this. We cannot go to our children and tell them, “When I was your age and I had this problem on, (Facebook, You Tube, Texting, IM’ing, etc.) this is how I handled it.” Children do not understand that once they hit Send there is no getting the information back!

Parents you need to be very pro-active in teaching your children effective tips on preventing child abduction. About 800,000 children are reported missing every year. While some of these are custody issues, there are some very scary statistics parents need to face the facts.

• 40% of children kidnapped are killed
• 4% of children are never found
• 79% of kidnappings are carried out by strangers and 21% by people they know

The real scary statistic is that 75% of parents are fear their children will become victims of abduction, but do not know the real tips and tricks to keep their children safe.

Things you should know about to prevent your child from becoming a statistic:

• Have frank discussions with your children about abduction

Keep Your Child Safe!

Frankly I am sick and tired of hearing a bunch of over paid whining babies complain about how much they make. The average salary for an NBA player is $5.5 Million per year, for putting a round ball in a round cylinder for 7 1/2 months if you make it to the finals of the NBA. If not, it was 6 1/2 months.  The average US Military soldier starts at $17,000 all the way to $40K for a Captain, that works year round, gets one month off per year and is deployed to foriegn soil where the enemy wants them dead, period. The average teacher makes less than $45,000 per year and they are commissioned to teach children in an environment that is more politically motivated than it is motivated to educate our children. Maybe these guys should grab a weapon, stand a post and see what our fighting men and women do everyday and maybe they would be a little more greatful to the easy life they have.

As a business owner I am taken back by the audacity of the players. If they worked for me and demanded pay, I would fire them, period, end of story. This is a prime example of Union mentaility run amuck. Whether these players wanted this or not, they are in a role model position to our children and what a horrible example of greed they demonstrating.

With the reveneues in the NBA being $4 Billion last year, this equates to $133 Million per team per season. There are less than 1% of the business across the country that experience that type of annual revenue and I can tell you the employees do not get to name their salaries to equal better than 57 % of the annual revenue. 

The business owners are to fault as well. They allowed this beast to get out of control. The tail was wagging the dog and now they are charging ticket prices, concession prices, merchandising and parking prices that have made it completely impossible for families to attend.

It is time for the players and the owners to experience the rath of the fans. I personally say, let them cancel the season and cancel the next one too. If we stop attending the games of these whiney babies, then they will start to learn that they cannot do this without the fans. While we are at making change, let’s start making them secure a 4 year college degree before they are eligible to play in the NBA.

With great opportunity comes great responsibility, humility and respect. The NBA players and the owners are showing neither.
